When I began to think about where I wanted to do this shoot..
I knew I wanted to do a back-to-school theme and I tried to think of a setting that had both a vintage and magical vibe. The more I considered it, the more I realized that the old antique mall in Washington Louisiana might just be the perfect place. I can remember going there as a little girl with my grandmother and thinking, wow, this place is old. It reminded me of the movie Grease, and I wished I had been a high schooler back in the 50's so I could have experienced a school day in this ancient, sprawling place. It turned out to be everything I'd hoped for, large classrooms and halls lined with items straight out of your favorite old sitcoms. Huge windows in every room provided the perfect natural light source for those dreamy, vintage vibes. We managed to get shots squeezed into corners, and by moving things here and there. My favorite shots are probably the ones on the old staircase that lead up to the second story classrooms. The natural light coming in from the big windows on the landing is just perfect. Another one of my favorite scenes is in an empty room behind the old gym, where there are huge windows and white brick lined walls. It felt like we were in a scene from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory! Overall, the shoot came out exactly as I'd pictured it, and the Schoolhouse proved to be the perfect venue for bringing my idea to life. Are there any cool places you would like to do a session at? I'd love to hear about it! Heres a link to the full gallery from this session!
